Tensioner Spring Stupidity
I am trying to remove the chain tensioner so I can replace the belt (after 17 years, it failed) but the PHILLIPS screw stripped and I can't get it removed.
First, why is it a PHILLIPS instead of an allen head screw (like the rest of the screws in the machine)?
Second, its so tight it feels like thread lock was used (the 2 4mm allen screws also seemed to have thread lock because they "popped" when broken). If so, what were you thinking? Good thing I was able to use the allen wrench to put some torque on the screw so it would loosen.
Third, now that the tensioner screw is stripped, I've tried several techniques to get the screw out - but I can't get the screw to budge. Any ideas how to remove this screw without damaging the screw receptacle?

Best portable planer I've ever used. Period.
The 13" knife thickness planer cuts through all wood types as smooth as butter. Along with leaving a fantastic finish, this planer is extremely easy to operate. The chain drive makes lowering and raising the head a breeze. I love how easy it is to change the blades as well. The top comes off with only 4 screws and reveals the easily accessible cutter head shroud that has 3 hand loosening wing nuts for easy removal. I love this planer!

STILL GOING STRONG AFTER 15 YEARS
In 15 years have only had to replace blades as they wear out. Have planed lots of hard white oak with no problems.
Only issue is that sometimes the cutter head gets a little misaligned with one side a touch higher than the other but careful raising and lowering seems to eliminate the problem.

Worked for while
I have been running soft woods through it for almost 2 years. Maybe 1200 feet total. Typical the pieces are 3 to 4 feet. Well the motor decide to burn up and now won't work. Typically taking less than a 32nd at each pass. Not driving 84 miles one way to get the work done, even if it is warranty. Will never buy it again.

Great machine
I owned dewalt battery drills more than one till the batteries became to much to replace, have a dewalt Porta band excellent tool and now I went the distance and spend a lot of cash on this 735x and the table to mount it . I bought 150 board feet of rough sawn hemlock for some accent shelving and a pair of stairs because I can buy 2x lumber from my Amish friend way cheaper and better that the old big box . However I needed to plane it to semi smooth it down to my liking . Let me tell you this planer paid fo itself already my wife and I ran 2x6,2x8,2x10 through this machine all day long and in meter missed a beat . These boards are a minimum of 2-1/4 thick to 2-1/2 and as long as 16 feet with sawdust flying everywhere we completed our task . Wished I would have bought it years ago .now I’m going to do a mantel for my sons house. If anyone out they want to spend money on a planer this is the one to buy

Port adapter breaks easily
Overall this is an excellent product, the blades are simple to change and the cuts are smooth. The only complaint I have is the exhaust port adapter is made of weak material and breaks easily, so as to last longer. it should be made of stronger material and redesigned

Motor smoking
Used the DW735 four times when the motor started smoking. At first it just tripped the breaker which after I reset and turned the machine back on it ran but started smoking. A white plastic piece broke inside the motor housing causing the excessive smoking.

Great addition to my shop
Easy to set up and run. Auto feed handles bigger lumber than I might have expected. Curious about the strength of the steel in the blades, however. Apparently, a remnant of a screw was in a board I was planing (my fault for not checking thoroughly) and that screw put a ding in the blades...necessitating purchase of 3 new blades. Having said that, blade replacement is easy and my down time was reduced.
Eventually, I found the offending screw (again, my fault for not checking before planing) and found it wasn't very big...I would hope the steel in the blades woulda been tough enough to survive the encounter. Oh well, steel ain't what it used to be.

Works Great
I buy rough cut lumber and this planer makes it easy to get exactly what I need for thickness.
