The Simpson HTT4 Strong-Tie Heavy Tension Tie and the SH/DU9-68 serve similar purposes in providing tension connections between wood and concrete, but they differ in design, load capacity, and installation features.
Simpson HTT4 Highlights:
Purpose: Heavy-duty tension tie for wood-to-concrete connections, suitable for residential and light commercial construction.
Material: 10-gauge galvanized steel, providing corrosion resistance and durability.
Load Capacity: Up to 7,650 lbs allowable load when installed with Strong-Drive® SD Connector screws.
Design: Features a four-fold seat and tapered base to reduce deflection and improve strength.
Installation: Uses 3/4" diameter anchor bolts with washers, and can be installed with nails or Strong-Drive® SD Connector screws. Compatible with minimum wood member sizes of 3" x 3 1/2".
Versatility: Can be installed vertically or horizontally, and up to 18" above concrete with no load reduction if elongation is accounted for.
Fasteners: Compatible with pneumatic nails or #10 x 2 1/2" screws.
SH/DU9-68 (General Comparison):
The SH/DU9-68 is typically a different style of holdown or tension tie, often used in steel or different wood framing applications. It may have different load ratings and installation requirements.
It may not have the same optimized four-fold seat design or the same high load capacity as the HTT4.
The SH/DU9-68 might require different fasteners or anchor bolt sizes and may not be as versatile in installation height or orientation.
