DeWalt DWS780 12" Double Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw

I bought this saw about a week ago when it was on sale at my local Canadian tire. I knew it had the shadow line and that is a feature I really wanted. I am upgrading from a mastercraft 7.5 inch saw and this DWS780 is a game changer.

When i started out custom wood working I was gifted a few things to help me out. One of which was a mastercraft saw and dont get me wrong its good for beginners buuut the price well you should spend the extra 100+$ to get better quality.

Now if you are reading thus far i will mention there is draw backs. Changing the blade first time is difficult as the tool provided doesnt give the leverage needed, honestly Dewalt if the saw is going to cost 900$, better tools are required. Secondly and this is minor - the push and pull of the track is a bit sticky, its not a smooth operation. This tool is not meant for the weakling as you need some force to push and pull the saw back. For similar price point the Bosch and Makita have a buttery smooth glide system, again for what you are paying it should be better.

Now I may have a few issues and while they are minor its something you should know before buying. I will saw that I love this saw, it has made accurate square cuts and i no longer second guess where im cutting thanks to the shadow line. I asked my wife who has supported the shop for the last few years “where has this saw been all my life “ its great, throw a finishing diablo blade one and everything is perfect.

Before you buy consider this ( honestly )

Do you have enough space for this as its an amazing monster.

Are you strong enough to handle this beast

Do you have a good dust collection system as this beast knows how to make saw dust

Do you want perfect cuts every time due to a shadow line that will never go out of square?

Disclaimer - Dewalt did not pay me for this review, its honest from someone who has worked with Milwaukee Bosch Makita Craftsman and Mastercraft tools. I personally use Milwaukee for drills sanding and storage but do not have strict brand loyalty and know what is quality when i see it, plus i dont believe saws should ever be battery operated - long live the power cord and solid power.

I've used DeWalt tools for years and always liked them, but this saw is on another level. Super easy to use, and the cutline blade positioning system is a game-changer. I upgraded from a saw with a laser and won’t be going back. Quick tip—hook up a vacuum for dust management because otherwise, it gets everywhere. Overall, highly recommend it for both DIYers and pros.

I bought this saw Jan 2024, the LED light went out, I tried to contact the store where i purchased it at in Gander NL, they said they will have to send the saw to Nova Scotia for repair & could take up to 6 months. I called Dewalt customer service and it says there operators are busy and disconnects. I have called several times and get the same message. SO FRUSTRATING! I am not getting anywhere with any of the service reps that are suppose to be in the area. I swiched all my tools from Ridgid to Dewalt and now i am really second guessing if that was a smart move. Seems like you pay alot of money for Dewalt products & they dont stand behind there warranties or service. Frustrated Customer.

I bought this saw a few years ago brand new. I had an awful time trying to calibrate it, and thought it was just my inexperience with this kind of pro-level saw. It wasn't until this week that I realized it wasn't me, it was the sliding mechanism. The sliding mechanism is not square - as you pull it toward you the blade/blade carriage drifts to the left. So when pushed all the way in and you put your square against the fence and the blade it shows as square, or if you slide the blade all the way out it shows as square. It isn't until you leave the square in place and slide the blade from front to back that you see the gap between the two positions. It's at least 1/16th of an inch off, and it's noticeable in the cuts you make. And this has nothing to do with the pressure put on the saw when pulling or pushing the blade. I've tried every which way to see if it's something caused by being heavy-handed, and have even tried pushing it from the back of the cylinders so no strain was on the mechanism.
I've narrowed the gap down as much as I can by adjusting to compensate the difference, but it's still noticeable. I've been doing some finer woodworking recently and the saw has been extra frustrating with its inaccurate cuts. I can't rely on it for anything where accuracy is important, which is just about everything I've been doing the past 1-2 years.
I've looked online and this seems to be a relatively common problem. It's infuriating that I bought this high-end saw and it's just about useless due to its lack of precision - the whole reason I spent extra on it. After buying it new I took it out of the box and mounted on a DeWalt miter saw stand (DWX723?) and haven't moved it since. I don't transport it anywhere, and therefore it does not get abused, dropped, etc. It would be nice if DeWalt could fix this so I could finally put it to good use.

I know that Black & Decker own this brand and that could be good or bad. But I have a battery operated B&D drill that. Is going strong. Last time I purchased a battery was in 2014, ten years ago. Now onto the DES780. I purchased this to replace my Craftman 137212370, that is a good saw as well. But the DeWalt DES780 kicks butt. I love this compound miter saw. It’s a good investment on so many frontd.

I was extremely disappointed with this purchase, the blade bottoms out on a piece below the miter slot, and the dust deflector was broken and for the price I was really unhappy, I returned the saw and will be stuck using my 20 plus year old dewalt 12in non sliding saw, which was a feature I was really needing, dewalt tools are usually a great buy but this is the first time I had any issues, I will probably try a different brand unfortunately, I'm a big dewalt fan and this is just shoddy workmanship and I truly unimpressed

I'm a DIY and bought this saw 9 months ago. I use it sporadically, and love the performance and the cut line feature. I would rate it at 5 stars except...the cut line feature stopped working last week. Reading other reviews online this is not an uncommon issue with this particular model. Under warranty, DeWalt will repair the saw, but DeWalt's turnaround time is going to be 4-6 weeks. I expected quicker service from an otherwise great company. I am going to be without the miter saw for over a month during my house renovation project. Not good so I have to give the overall experience 3 stars.

The saw cuts very well, but after less than a year of moderate use the LED light went out.

I have had this saw for about 4 years. It still cuts very accurate when doing trim work. I really like how easy it is to change the blade. Even after riding around in the bed of my truck, I check it for square each time. I have never had to adjust it. Great saw to have.
