Features of the Fluke iSee Mobile Thermal Camera

In a data center, excessive heat is a major warning sign. Overloaded circuits, failing connections, and overheating equipment show up as hot spots long before they cause a shutdown. The Fluke iSee turns your phone into a professional thermal camera so you can spot those problems fast, anywhere you have signal, without hauling extra tools and equipment.

Professional-Grade Thermal Images From Your Phone

The iSee captures thermal images at 256 x 192 pixels with a 25 Hz frame rate. That resolution and speed is in line with dedicated handheld thermal cameras at a fraction of the size. Thermal sensitivity is 50 mK, meaning the iSee can detect temperature differences as small as 0.05 degrees Celsius. Accuracy is plus or minus 2 percent or 2 degrees Celsius, whichever is greater. More than 10 color palettes let you set up the image the way you want to see it.

Wide Temperature Range for Data Center Work

The TC01A measures from -10 to 550 degrees Celsius (14 to 1022 degrees Fahrenheit). The TC01B and TC01C extend the low end to -20 degrees Celsius. That range covers everything from cold air intake temperatures to hot spots on breakers, busbars, and server racks. The temperature measurement distance ranges from 0.25 to 5 meters, which is the right range for inspecting panels, racks, and cable runs from a safe working position. Many servers are designed to automatically shut down when their temperature exceeds 75 to 76 degrees Fahrenheit. Catching a temperature problem before that threshold protects your uptime, crew safety, and your equipment.

Spot Problems in Real Time

The iSee app lets you set up spot, line, and area temperature measurements. You can set real-time temperature alarms that alert you the moment a reading goes above or below your threshold. Adjustable emissivity lets you get accurate readings on different materials like metal, plastic, and wire insulation. The app also supports automatic time-lapse photography so you can monitor an area over time without standing there. This is useful for tracking cooling patterns into, out of, and around server racks across a full inspection walk.

One Tool. Three Models. Works With iPhone or Android.

The TC01A uses a USB-C connector and works with Android and HarmonyOS phones. The TC01B uses a Lightning connector for iPhones and iPads and has received Apple MFI Certification. The TC01C uses USB-C for newer iPhones with USB-C ports. All three models use the same Fluke iSee app. They are available on the App Store and Google Play.

Share and Document Without Stopping

The iSee app lets you share thermal images and video in real time and add annotations directly to the image. You can compare the thermal view side by side with the visible light image to pinpoint exactly where the problem is. This makes it easy to communicate findings to your team or document issues for a report without extra steps.

Small Enough to Carry Every Day

The iSee weighs just 22 grams. The housing is aluminum with a laser-etched surface. The TC01B and TC01C carry an IP56 ingress protection rating. The TC01A is rated IP54. All three pass a 1-meter drop test. It clips onto your phone and is ready to use in under a minute. Warm-up time is one minute from a cold start.

Where to Use It in Your Data Center

Transformer / Substation

Scan secondary windings, terminations, and lugs. Look for thermal anomalies between similar components, physical damage or debris, and temperature differences between phases that signal load imbalance.

Alternate Power Source

Many data centers have a second utility transformer or standby generator for redundancy. Inspect it under load, using the same process as the main source.

Standby Generators

Scan lugs, termination points, and mechanical components while the generator is powered up with everything downstream running off it.

Cooling and Exhaust Systems

Record actual temperatures rather than temperature differences. Monitor the trend line you build across regular walk-throughs to catch changes early.

Transfer Switches

Look for heating that signals loose connections due to insufficient torque or compression on a lug or termination. If the transfer switch fails, nothing downstream is protected.

Main Switchboard

Scan busbars, bolted connections, and fuse clips. Look for thermal anomalies in connections, terminations, fuses, and fuse clips.

UPS Systems

Scan input connections, terminals, and inverter sections under load. Scan batteries both under load and immediately after removing load. Bad cells heat fast under load and cool fast when the load is removed.

Power Distribution Units (PDUs)

Scan lugs, terminals, and circuit breaker terminals. If the PDU has a transformer, scan that too.

Server Racks

Monitor power strips, wiring connections, plugs, and plug strips. Look for overheating from loose or bent plugs. A broken conductor shows as the 'barber pole effect' on screen — alternating hot and cool bands on the wire.

Air Cooling and HVAC

Map cooling patterns into, out of, and around server racks. Confirm whether cooling is adequate. Uncharacteristically cool surfaces can also signal a problem, like an HVAC imbalance that needs to be corrected before servers overheat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the iSee work with my iPhone or Android phone?

Yes. The TC01A is for Android phones and tablets with a USB-C port. The TC01B is for iPhones and iPads with a Lightning port and is Apple MFI Certified. The TC01C is for newer iPhones and iPads that use USB-C. All three use the same Fluke iSee app available on Google Play and the App Store.

Is the iSee accurate enough to use for electrical inspections in a data center?

Yes. The iSee measures with an accuracy of plus or minus 2 percent or 2 degrees Celsius, whichever is greater. Its 50 mK thermal sensitivity catches small temperature differences that indicate early-stage problems. It is not a replacement for a full-size certified thermal camera on high-stakes inspections, but it is a practical tool for routine checks, walk-throughs, and quick diagnostics.

How close do I need to be to get a good reading?

The temperature measurement distance is 0.25 to 5 meters. For most rack and panel inspections in a data center, that means you can get a useful reading from arm's length up to about 16 feet. The field of view is 56 by 42 degrees, which covers a good area at typical working distances.

Can I use the iSee to document findings for a report?

Yes. The iSee app lets you save thermal images and video, add text annotations, and compare the thermal view with the visible light image side by side. You can share files directly from the app. This makes it easy to attach thermal evidence to a work order or maintenance report without extra steps.

What happens if I drop it on the job?

The iSee is rated to survive a 1-meter drop test. The TC01B and TC01C carry an IP56 ingress protection rating, which means they are protected against powerful water jets. The TC01A is rated IP54. The aluminum housing is built to handle daily use in a trades environment.
