Description

Tempo FIB-TRN Description

Tempo recognized a widespread need for basic hands-on training for the installation, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic networks. In response, we custom-designed the Tempo Communications Fiber Trainer to provide the platform required for conducting hands-on fiber experiments. The Tempo Communications Fiber Trainer provides a compact platform used to train fiber optic technicians. The Fiber Trainer has loss events that simulate a faulty connector, a Macrobend and a damaged fiber optic cable. The 1km fiber link provides the student technician a typical fiber link that has a fault midway. This allows the technician setup the OTDR, test and evaluate the 1km link. The two fiber spools provide sufficient fiber for fusion splicing exercises. The connectors on the ends of the fiber spools allow for convenient connections for loss testing so that the student technician can measure and validate fusion splice loss. The Fiber Trainer is built with the components a technician needs to learn how to: Cleave and splice fiber optic cables with a fusion splicer. Inspect and Clean connectors and bulkheads with a video inspection probe and typical cleaning supplies. Locate fiber faults using a visual fault locator. Measure loss of the fiber using optical power meters and light sources. Utilize an OTDR to measure length and loss using Auto or Expert modes. Each Fiber Trainer requires one Consumable Kit (SPC01) which provides the necessary cables, cleaning supplies, and supplementary items to perform the experiments during the hands-on portion of the learning modules.

Tempo FIB-TRN Includes

  • (50) Cleaning Swabs
  • (100) Cleaning Wipes
  • (1) Fiber Disposal Unit
  • (1) Cleaning Fluid
  • (1) Safety Glasses
  • (50) Fusion Splice Sleeves
  • (2) SC/UPC Bulkheads
  • (2) 15m Pigtail (900 micron)
  • (1) SC/APC to SC/APC 3mm, 0.5m Cable
  • (3) SC/UPC to SC/UPC 3mm, 0.5m Cable

Tempo FIB-TRN Features

  • (1) Sharpie Pen
  • (2) SC/UPC to SC/UPC 3mm, 5m Cable
  • (1) SC/APC to SC/UPC 3mm, 1m Cable
  • Fiber Optic Basics - Basic fiber optic theory, safety considerations, and typical networks are presented. Cable structure, fiber optic connectors and measurement of optical power are also presented to prepare the student for future learning modules.
  • Cleaning and Inspection - Cleaning techniques of various optical connectors and bulkheads is presented and then validated with the FIP100 video inspection probe.
  • Visual Fault Locating - Various faults such fiber breaks and Macrobends are identified using a visual fault locator.
  • Fiber Optic Loss Testing - One cable, two cable and three cable loss measurements techniques are presented and re-enforced with hands on loss measurements of cables/devices.
  • Fusion Splicing & Fiber Dressing - Fiberoptic cables are prepared and spliced using fiber cleavers and fusion splicers. Theory on the tools is presented to aid the student in understanding splicing technology and best practices. The student performs a fusion splice and then installs the fiber/splice into a fiber optic enclosure. The loss is then measured using previously learned measurement techniques. If a high loss is measured the student will troubleshoot and remedy the loss as necessary.
  • Optical Time Domain Reflectometers - OTDR theory is presented and the student uses this knowledge to perform typical length and loss measurements using Auto and Expert measurement modes. Test settings are experimented with to show the inter-relationship and how they affect the test results. The student will then gain an appreciation of the test parameters to attain the most meaningful test results.
